a pixie market vest in a natural oatmeal — collarless, cut on a deep v, and fastened with five domed gold buttons that are doing most of the talking.

the cloth is the other half of it: a basketweave with a visible grid to it, so the surface catches light in two directions and the colour shifts between oat and sand depending on which way you hold it. fifty-one percent linen with forty-nine percent polyester — just over half linen, which is what gives it the dry hand and the texture, with the polyester doing the work of keeping it from creasing into oblivion.

two welt pockets set low at the hip, bound and pressed flat. princess seams front and back, a centre back seam, and a hem that curves gently at the front points. fully lined, which is unusual at this price and is why it hangs clean rather than clinging to whatever is underneath.
