a khaite cardigan in black cashmere — one hundred percent, stated plainly on the label, and made in mongolia, which is where the long-staple cashmere comes from.
a deep v, cut low enough to be a neckline rather than an opening, and three tortoiseshell buttons set beneath it. two patch pockets with ribbed tops sitting square on the front. fisherman's rib finishing the placket, the cuffs and the hem, which is what gives a soft knit its architecture.
the sleeves are relaxed and extended, full through the upper arm and drawn in at a ribbed cuff. the body is cropped and squared off. worn open it falls away from the chest; buttoned it blouses slightly above the hem. mid-weight — heavy enough to wear as the layer rather than under one.
