a jonathan simkhai dress in ivory, built entirely out of crinkle pleat. the cloth is pressed into fine irregular vertical creases that catch light down every ridge, so a flat ivory reads as a dozen tones of cream depending where you stand.
the bodice is where the work is. fine gathered straps, a straight neckline edged in a small ruffle, and the body shirred in horizontal bands with shaped seams curving under the bust and crossing at the waist — so the gathering is doing the shaping, not a dart or a boning channel. a wide shirred band marks the waist, and below it a second ruffle-edged seam curves across the high hip before the skirt releases into full crinkle pleat and falls to mid-calf.
fully lined. shell 100% polyester, lining 100% polyester — a satin weave rather than a satin fibre, which is what lets the crinkle hold its memory the way it does.
