the amelia leather jacket — banana republic's cropped flight jacket in a warm mid-brown, cut boxy and short with a dropped shoulder. real hide, not a coated imitation, and retails six hundred and fifty dollars.
the shell is cow leather and it has the grain to prove it: a soft pebbled surface across the shoulders and hem, the sheen that only full hide gives, and the kind of creasing that reads as character rather than wear. the detailing is pure flight jacket — a wide point collar with a snap throat latch so it can be fastened all the way up, a snap placket down the front, two flap chest pockets, two slash hand pockets below them, and snap tabs at the cuffs.
the hem is finished with a deep banded panel in a crinkled leather, which is what keeps the cropped length from looking cut off. the back is panelled with a yoke and two long seams. body lining is fifty-eight percent viscose rayon with forty-two percent cotton; the sleeves are lined separately in a slicker fifty-five polyester, forty-five viscose so it slides over a knit. made in korea.
